Non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA) is a form of inflammatory arthritis primarily affecting the spine and the sacroiliac joints. Unlike ankylosing spondylitis, another type of axial spondyloarthritis, nr-axSpA does not show visible radiographic changes in the spine or sacroiliac joints on x-rays. This condition can still lead to significant pain, stiffness, and discomfort despite the lack of these visible changes.
nr-axSpA is often underdiagnosed due to its subtle presentation and the absence of radiographic evidence. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in preventing the disease's progression and in improving the patient's quality of life significantly.
