Major Depressive Disorder

OverviewOverview

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), also known as clinical depression, is a serious mood disorder that affects how you feel, think, and handle daily activities. It can cause severe symptoms that interfere with your ability to work, sleep, study, eat, and enjoy life. While occasional feelings of sadness are normal, MDD encompasses persistent and intense feelings of sadness and hopelessness.

To be diagnosed with MDD, these symptoms must be present for at least two weeks and represent a significant departure from a person’s previous level of functioning. MDD is not just a temporary phase or a sign of personal weakness; it is a complex mental health condition that often requires medical treatment and support.
