Psoriatic Arthritis

OverviewOverview

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects both the skin, in the form of psoriasis, and the joints. It is an autoimmune disease, which means the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues. The condition can cause joint pain, stiffness, and swelling, and in severe cases, it can lead to joint damage and disability.

PsA typically occurs in people who have psoriasis, a condition characterized by red, scaly skin patches. The onset of psoriatic arthritis can happen at any age, but it most commonly appears between the ages of 30 and 50. Early diagnosis and treatment are critical in managing symptoms and preventing joint damage.
