Ascent Consumer Products Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of one lot of SinuCleanse Soft Tip Squeeze Bottle Nasal Wash System due to Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) contamination. This microbial contamination poses serious health risks, including blood infections, meningitis, bacterial sinusitis, bone and joint infections, and endocarditis, particularly for individuals with compromised nasal mucosa because of inflammation and mechanical injuries that are caused by nasal irrigation. Bacterial sinusitis due to S. aureus can lead to vision problems, eye tissue infections, meningitis and cranial nerve damage.
The nasal wash is used to relieve the symptoms of cold, flu, sinusitis or allergies.
The affected lot (024122661A1, expiration 12-31-2027) was distributed nationwide in January 2025 through retail and online stores. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product and either return it to the place of purchase or dispose of it.
The company is notifying distributors and retailers via email, advising them to halt sales and remove the affected lot from inventory. Although no adverse events have been reported so far, the recall aims to prevent potential serious and life-threatening infections. Ascent Consumer Products Inc. urges consumers to contact their health care provider if they experience any issues related to the recalled nasal wash.
To report adverse reactions, visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s MedWatch website, or submit by mail or fax using the form available on MedWatch or call 1-800-332-1088 to request a reporting form. For questions regarding this recall, consumers can contact Ascent Consumer Products Inc. by email at cs@ascentconsumerproducts.com Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time.
